8th International Workshop on Big Mobility Data Analytics (BMDA)
co-located with the EDBT/ICDT Conference, March 24-27, 2026, Tampere, Finland
[Selected accepted papers will be considered for a special issue at Springer's Geoinformatica journal]
Workshop Description
The Big Mobility Data Analytics (BMDA) workshop (https://www.datastories.org/bmda/), co-located with the EDBT/ICDT Conference since 2018, aims at bringing together experts from research and industry to discuss the present and future of mobility-aware analytics. In its 8th edition, BMDA will foster the exchange of new ideas on multi-disciplinary real-world problems, discuss proposals for innovative solutions, and identify emerging opportunities for further research in the field of big mobility data analytics, such as AI/ML on mobility data, edge computing, and visual analytics. The workshop aims to bridge the gap between experts from diverse mobility-aware domains, including urban, maritime, and aviation transportation, as well as human complex networks. Multiple fields of big mobility data analytics relate to the objectives of this workshop, including, but not limited to:
- Fundamentals of mobility data analytics
- Big data platforms for mobility data analytics
- Parallel/streaming/edge data processing for mobility analytics
- Predictive analytics using mobility data
- AI and deep learning models for mobility data
- Generative AI / Foundation models for mobility data
- Complex event detection for moving objects
- Visual analytics on big mobility data
- Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) and Mobility-AI-as-a-Service (MAIaaS)
- Interactive traffic analysis with GPS data
- Movement ecology and environmental analytics
- Geo-social network analytics
- Integration/interlinking of mobility with societal data
- Philosophical/ethical/privacy issues on mobility data analytics
As in the previous years, selected accepted papers will be considered for a special issue in (GeoInformatica https://link.springer.com/journal/10707; 2024 IF: 2.6), following a thorough review process on an extended version of the workshop paper.
Paper Submission Procedure and Workshop Proceedings
We invite papers discussing novel research and ideas without substantial overlap with papers that have been published or submitted to a journal or a conference with proceedings. Submitted papers can be of two types:
- Full papers (8 pages long): these papers should report original research results or significant case studies.
- Short papers (4 pages long): these papers should report ongoing research work and/or showcase cutting-edge mobility data analytics software.
Papers should be formatted according to the EDBT 2026 guidelines (see the instructions at https://edbticdt2026.github.io/?contents=EDBT_CFP.html)
and submitted via EasyChair: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=bmda2026.
All submitted papers will be peer reviewed by at least three reviewers. If accepted, at least one of the authors must register for EDBT/ICDT and present the paper..
Following the tradition of recent EDBT/ICDT workshops, all workshop papers will be published online under the CEUR Workshop Proceedings (CEUR-WS.org).
